Pasting Excel-diagrams in Powerpoint maintaining link to Excel dat

Hi

As part of my job as market analysis consultant I use Excel and Powerpoint
very much. Recently, my computer has been updated with Office 2007 and now
I'm facing a problem in the new version.

I generate a lot of graphs and tables in excel which I then paste in a
report made in Powerpoint. It is important that I paste the graphs/tables in
Powerpoint with a link to the excel-sheet, so corrections will be updated
automatically in my Powerpoint document. Pasting the grahps in as a pictures
is thus no solution for me. In the 2003 version I pasted in the graphs/tables
as "Paste special" as a link. By doing it like this, I could update the
graphs/tables if I had done any changes in my excel sheet. This function does
no longer work properly in the 2007 version.

What can I do to maintain the link to my excel-sheet? I have managed to
paste in graphs by just using "Paste" function but when I want to downsize my
graphs, the fonts of the graphs are not downsized.

Generating graphs and tables directly in Powerpoint is not a solution for me.

I hope you can help because this is part of our daily work.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your reply, but unfortunately this does not help me.

I do not want to paste my data into the powerpoint presentation. I want to
have a seperate spreadsheet in which I have my original data and all
graphs/tables for the whole report. Instead I want to link my excel
spreadsheet to the Powerpoint file. I used to do that in the 2003 version and
I simply don't understand why I cannot make this work in the 2007 version.

It is simply too time consuming to copy all data into the powerpoint file.
And the other way worked perfectly for me.

Sorry if that didn't help. Have you tried to right-click on the powerpoint
chart and select Update link. I have tried this and it updates the data as
long as you use Paste Special and link.

My problem is the "Paste special" with link function. When I use that
function, my pasted graphs in the Powerpoint is cut on the left side, meaning
that only part of the Excel graph is shown in the Powerpoint presentation. If
I could attach a file, I could send you an example.

Since I cannot find out how this function works properly now, I have also
tried just to paste the graph in by using Ctrl V. This also works until I
downsize my graph for instance to just 50%, then the graph is donwsized by
50%, but the font stays in the original size. Then I have a visual problem.

Kind regards, Birgit

Hi

My problem has been solved. My computer has been formatted and re-installed
and it turned out that the "Paste special" function with links now works.
I think the error has been caused by my Office programme was just updated to
2007 version. That meant the Office 2003 still was installed on the pc. I
think there was a conflict between the two versions and it seems to be
solved by removing the 2003 version. I don't know if this was the reason but
now everything works fine again!

Thanks for all your help.

Kind regards, Birgit Søgaard
