pasting cause explorer to freeze

hi, i'm having problems with the pasting function. it doens't matter if i do
ctrl c or ctrl x, but whenver i copy/cut a file (text copies and pastes fine,
just files have problems) and try to paste it somewhere else using ctrl v, it
causes windows exporer to stop responding. i then have to open up taskmanager
to end the task to get explorer working again. however, drag and drop seems
to work just fine.

and another problem i'm having is from time to time, whenever i right click
somewhere in explorer to bring up the menu (not on an icon), it freezes. it
also freezes when i click on "make a new folder" under file and folder tasks.

can someone please tell me what could be causing this and a possible
solution? thanks.

If you are trying to "cut and paste" a huge file from one drive to another,
the operation can take a long time. Explorer may just "seem" to be frozen,
while in actuality it is doing it's job. If you cancel the operation you
will lose some/all of the file. There is no putting it back together.

If you knew as much as you thought you know,
You would realize that you don't know what you thought you knew!

but it's not from one drive to another, it's all on the same drive, just a
different folder. i have a 40gb hdd on a laptop

If it all on the same "partition" it should be almost instantaneous. If it
is to another partition, on the same drive, it can take a long time if it is
a 1 gig file.

it's to the same partition. like i said, ctrl + v pasting is what freezes
explorer, however, dragging and dropping it works fine
