paste special

i am trying to create a word document with pictures. I
have found it easier to insert a picture into powerpoint
and insert captions and stuff there and then saving the
slide as a JPEG or copy and paste it into word. Is there a
way to do this where, by changing the slide in powerpoint
it will also make the change in the word document without
me having to repaste. Is this even possible? The closest
thing i have found is the paste special ability but i
haven't gotten it to work going from one program to
another.

You can embedd objects into the Word file.
In word menubar ... insert ..object...create from file...check the "link to
file"...browse to the file to be embedded and click on insert.
This links the entire file into word... the changes if made to the source
file...will be visible the word document is opened...

By default changes are auto updated... but to check for any changes..you
can right click the object and update link...
But if there are multiple images they will be only visible when the object
is double clicked

Instead of this, I'd do it the other way 'round.

Save the PowerPoint file.
Then switch to Slide Sorter view.
Select a slide there and choose Edit, Copy
Switch to Word
Choose Edit, Paste Special. Put a check next to Link. Make sure that the
default chosen object type is "Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Object" or the like.
Click OK.

Repeat for each slide you need to move into the Word doc.

Either way, it's liable to make for some very large Word files.

thank you very much for your help. but now i have another
question. What i have been doing is inserting the file as
a picture onto a drawing canvas and then moving the
picuture off the canvas and deleting the canvas. this
allows me to manipulate the picture however i want it
either by enlarging it or most importantly being able to
drag and drop it whereever i please. But when i insert it
as an object rather than a picture i can't do this. is
there a way to make it an object and allow me to drag and
drop at will.

your way is easier, but i still have the problem with word
not letting me drag and drop picture. maybe word isn't the
best program to use. i am making instruction manuals and
inserting a lot of picutres and diagrams. right now i am
insert text boxes for text and moving them along with the
pictures to a layout that i want. the ultimate goal is
once everything is how it should be in word. it will then
be transformed into a PDF and put on the internet. is
there a more user friendly program for this.

I don't think you mentioned that before. Do you mean you can't drag and drop
from PowerPoint to Word, or do you mean you can't move the picture once it's
inserted into Word? On the whole, I'd avoid Drag Drop.

i meant i can't drag and drop once in word. but its ok. I
have found that using publisher is much easier for what i
am trying to do. THank you for all your suggestions.
