Paste doesn't replace, it moves the original highlighted text ovr

When I select a section of text to paste, the selected text is not replaced
when I hit paste, it is moved over.

Word 2003: Tools - options - Edit tab - check replace selection first option
top of the dialog.
 
Make sure that the "Typing replaces selected text" option is selected in
Office button | Word Options, Advanced category. (In Word 2003, the
corresponding option is on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.)
