Password required to connect to shared files

I have a Compaq Presario Desktop and a Presario Laptop. Newtworked through a
Linksys 802.11g Wireless hub. Both computers run Windows XP Home SP1. I was
able to share files on both computers from either computer, but was having a
problem with an HP print program on the desktop. HP help desk told me to
start "regedit" and verify that permissions were valid for all users. I do
not believe I changed anything. However, now I can access laptop files from
the desktop, but cannot access desktop files from the laptop. I can view both
computers in the workgroup on the laptop, but when I try to accesss the
desktop from the laptop I get a screen that says "Connect to DS-Desktop".
This screen asks for a password. I do not know what the pasword is, and do
not remember ever setting a password. In the past a password was not required
to access desktop files from the laptop. I can't figure out how to
clear/reset the password or turn off this function so that I can gain access
to the desktop files from the laptop. Any suggestions? Thanks

There are no user permissions for network access in XP Home, because
all users are validated through the Guest account. What did HP have
you check in the registry ???

Run the Network Setup Wizard on the desktop, which is usually all
that's needed to enable file sharing. Tell the Wizard that the
computer connects to the Internet through a residential gateway
(router).

Make sure that there's no network password for the Guest account by
following these steps on the desktop:

1. Click Start | Run.
2. Type "control userpasswords2" in the box and click OK.
3. Click Guest.
4. Click Reset Password.
5. Click OK without entering a new password.

If that doesn't solve it, enter this command in the Start | Run box on
the desktop to enable networked access by the Guest account:

net user guest /active:yes

Note that Guest account settings in Control Panel | User Accounts have
nothing to do with networking. They determine whether you can log on
as Guest at the local keyboard.

userpasswords2" worked!
