In ME, I had no problems like this, so I'm not sure if it's an XP problem, or an IE problem. But anyway, my browser doesn't seem to recognize this syntax any longer: http://[login]:[password]@www.blah.com/. Same with FTP sites. Any suggestions on why or how to correct the problem? It still works if you go to www.blah.com and the box pops up and you put in the password there, just not the syntax listed above. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I found a reply someone gave to someone with a similar problem as me, and he said to check the Registry for a value in Software>Microsoft>Internet Explorer>Main>Features. Well, I have no such values in those folders yet still have the syntax errors. How do I fix this problem? I want to be able to use the syntax http://[login]:[password]@www.website.com/ even if it's a potential security risk. Thanks

I know it was updated. I've read all the posts regarding syntax errors. I've tried all the suggestions to correct the problem, but still to no avail. There are no updates available on Windows Update, and I'm using SP1. I added the registry keys that are alleged to allow you to use said syntax again, yet they don't work correctly. Now, how do I enable it any other way?

You need to create the keys and values. (They are not folders)

Please be careful.
You need to be exact in the Registry. There is no margin for error.

Perhaps you added them incorrectly?
Can you export the key you created to a text file and paste the
contents here? It should only be a few lines.
The key should be: (it will wrap here)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE

....Alan

That's what I meant. I created the keys and DWORD values in [ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE\ ] and set them to 0 and am still receiving the errors. Are there any other ways to correct the problem?

Here's the .reg file I exported

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.0

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl\FEATURE_HTTP_USERNAME_PASSWORD_DISABLE
"explorer.exe"=dword:0000000
"iexplore.exe"=dword:00000000

Did you restart the machine?

I can't fault that. It is what I get if I create the entries.
On looking back at previous correspondence with others, they have the
same and have no trouble. I am afraid I don't know why it doesn't work
for you.
