Hi everyone,

I wonder if you could with this.

I have created a small network with one computer running Win XP Pro and
another 5 computers running Windows XP Home.

On the XP Pro I have created a shared folder and would like all computers to
have access to it. On the XP Home I have mapped this drive.

When I start any of the XP Home there is a message on the system tray
stating that the computer could not reconnect to some of the shared
resources. When I open my computer and double click the mapped drive I am
asked for the user name and password to access it. The user name is
automatically entered and I have to enter the password. After that I am
granted access to the mapped drive until the computer is restarted. Then the
whole process has to be repeated.

Any idea what could be causing this problem and how can I resolve it.

If it helps there is nothing else shared on the network yet (no printers or
other folders).

Thanks a lot.

Anguel,

If you totally trust the users of each of the XP Home computers, enable Simple
File Sharing (Control Panel - Folder Options - View - Advanced settings) on the
XP Pro computer. Then, enable the Guest account on each computer. Enable Guest
with Start - Run - "cmd", then type "net user guest /active:yes" in the command
window.

If you only want to make this one share available to the XP Home computer users,
leave SFS disabled on the server, and make sure the non-Guest user account is
present on each of the XP Home computers, with a non-blank password identical on
all computers (including the XP Pro server).
