I compressed a folder with several files in it by right-clicking on the
folder, selecting properties, clicking on advanced, then the sharing tab and
selecting compress. Up to here there is no problem. The folder name turns to
a blue font.
Here is the problem, according to the Help and Support for Windows XP
Professional. I double click on the compressed folder. Then click on the File
Menu and select add a password. I have tried this over and over and there is
no "add a password" on the file menu. What am I doing wrong.

In Windows Explorer, right click an open area and select New ->
Compressed (Zipped) Folder.
Open the new folder.
Move the files you want to protect into this folder.
Now go to the File Menu and click "Add a Password".
Make sure the password is something you won't forget.

Good luck

The password feature is for compressed *zip* folders. To create a zip
folder, right-click on the files or folders and Send To -> Compressed
zip folder. You should have the option of assigning a password in the
dialog that follows.
