Password prompt not coming up

I hope someone can help. I am a member of a group that for it's volunteers it
requires a user id and password. My problem is when I click to "enter' the
site the password prompt doesn't show up. I automatically get a 401 error
(authorization required) I've done everything I could think of. everything my
isp could think of. everything the webmaster could think of. I think you get
my point. I even upgraded to IE 7.0 from 6.0 thinking that would help. It
didn't. The weird thing is today, it came up twice and I was able to use my
id's and get in. half an hour later, tried it again, the prompt failed to
come up....I need someone's help. I need to get into the site as I am a
coordinator for it!!!

Some possibilities...
Place the site in Trusted Sites. From Internet Options>
Security> Trusted Sites> Sites> uncheck "Require server verification
(https for all sites" then add (for example) " *.microsoft.com "
(without the quotes) to this zone.

If it *is* a secure site, leave "Require server verification" checked and
enter the site as https://www.sitename.com

Assuming WinXP...
Control Panel> User Accounts> [UserName]> Manage network passwords, clear
any login information that's been stored for that site.

Also, Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone> Custom Level> User
Authentication> select Prompt for username and password.

Try clearing the Temporary Internet Files and deleting any cookies for that
site.

Hi Don. thank you for your ideas. Most I have tried already. No it did not
work. I even looked behind the site just in case the password prompt was
behind for some reason. I have upgraded to IE 7.0...do you think if I totally
changed browsers would help? I really don't want to do that, but I'm running
out of ideas. If you want to see the site I'm talking about it's
www.grrow.org after you enter the website the volunteer section is on the
left down at the bottom. I'm sure if YOU clicked on the "here"...you would
get the password box....now why can't I?

More possibilities...
If you're still at IE7, do you have *.grrow.org in Trusted Sites? Then go
to Internet Options> Security> Trusted Sites> Custom and make these
selections:
[Enable] Allow script-initiated windows without size or position
constraints.
[Enable] Allow websites to open windows without address or status bars
[Enable] Allow websites to prompt for information using scripted windows

Turn on the Windows Firewall, from Control Panel or Security Center, and
disable any third-party firewall or security suite.

IE> Tools> Manage add-ons... disable any add-on which might be blocking
pop-up windows.

IE> Tools> pop-up blocker... turn off pop-up blocker.

Internet Options> Privacy... are you allowing cookies from that site? Try a
setting of Low or Accept all (temporarily.)
