I have not use my laptop for at least three months and when I finally get to using it again. the password that i remember no longer work. Since I am also the administrator i am unable to do anything. I have to click 'Guest' as user to use my laptop. Is there a way to recover my password so i can signin? Please help. Thanks

Are you really the administrator, or does your usual account have admin
privledges?

There is a genuine "Administrator" account on XP, but it doesn't show up on
the login screen. You need to boot into Safe Mode to see it, so press F5
before the first Windows screen appears on booting up to get the menu.

If you know the password for this account (try some old ones if you don't,
it would be set when you first installed XP), you can use it to log in and
change your usual accounts password.

Good luck,

Fraser.

Well for me and maybe there is an easier way. Open up the laptop to expose your mother board look for a small battery like a watch battery. Remove the battery from your computer for 10 sec then put it back in. One the laptop is back together start your computer this should delete your passoword.

That may do something for the BIOS password but will do nothing for
the Windows password.
Since there is no Guest option for the BIOS, the OP must be referring
to the Windows password.

I doubt it would work in a modern laptop anyway. Not much point to BIOS
passwords if they can be reset that easily; the manufacturers figured that
out 4-5 years ago... ;-)
