I need to know if there is a tool of some kind that can
get me back into the family computer. Someone has placed
a password on the pc and 'no one' seems to know what that
password is. My son and his friends cannot locate our disk
that came with Windows so basically we are locked out of
our pc. I really don't want to have to call someone for
this. If anyone has been in this situation or have some
usefule information I am all ears.

Is this the password to login to Windows or a System password that
prevents the OS from booting until it is entered?

Steve

This is the Windows password.

Do you have an email account that can be replied to
privately or is this newsgroup the only access you now have?

You can get a utility to reset the administrator password from:

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd

It makes a bootable flopy disk, however it is actually booting a linux
kernal and may appear rather daunting. Accept all the defaults except
for when it asks to scan for SCSI drives tell it no and when it asks to
write to the registry at the end answer yes.
