password problem - is cause Windows or hardware?

I'm using Windows XP Pro on a personal laptop with password protection on an
Administrator account. I haven't forgotten my password, but I keep getting
an error message when I enter it. I've noticed that when typing certain
keys, no symbol appears which makes me think the problem is with the
keyboard.

Has anyone had a similar problem? I don't have a password recovery cd
(can't remember making one, at least), though I'm not sure it would help in
this case.

Thanks

Joanne

To be certain of a keyboard issue, try opening ip Word and typing in every
character: start top left and work across and then down the rows: eg:
qwerty.......
asd....
zxc...
123...
Now if word shows all the chars, then you don't have a keyboard issue:
however some charcters are not 'allowed' to be used in passwords.

So from a User Account , which has admin priveledges, go in and change the
Admin Password.

Don't use things like %&*(){}<>?
