Hi Robert,
Take a look at the folowing article:
How to turn on automatic logon in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315231
You can also follow this steps:
1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this
computer" check box, and then click Apply.
4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password
box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
5. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to
close the User Accounts window.

Thanks for your help Anton.
I tried the following steps that you gave me but when I rebooted the
computer would just go to the XP screen and stop.
Tried it several times with the same results.
Had to go to safe mode and reenter my password.

thanks again.

Hi Robert,
Which account did you enter on the Automatic Logon Windows? Does the
computer stop responding or just hangs on logon? Try running the computer in
selective mode, just follow this steps.
1. Click Start/run and type msconfig
2. Click to select Selective Startup
3. Click to remove Load Startup Item
4. Open Services tab and click to select Hide All Microsoft Services
5. Click Disable All
6. Click Ok and Restart
Does the computer boot automaticaly in selective mode? Try creating new user
account and set automactic logon for that one
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/279783)?

Thanks again Anton,
I have it now. Before when I went into User Accounts I had two
Administrators.
Under User Name I had Administrator and Bob Craig (my name)Administrator.
I guess I chose The first one instead of the one with my name.
Could you tell me why there are two Adminstrator's listed?
Thanks again for your help.
Robert

Hi Robert,
The first Administrator is the built-in, the second is the one you created
at setup. In Windows Xp Home you can logon with administrator account only
in safe mode, you cannot see it in normal startup. I am glad we solved the
problem.

Hi Anton,
Hope you don't get fed up with me asking all these questions.
Who gave the first Administrator a password and can I delete the built-in
Administrator and only have the one in my name?

Thanks again

Robert

You can get TweakUI, which is part of Microsoft PowerToys:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Go to Logon -> Autologon, check the box, put in the user (if it's different
from what is currently displayed), set the password, click Apply, then OK.

Hi,

I strongly recommend that you live the administrator account as it is,
because you never know when you are going to need it. You definitely need
the administrator account for troubleshooting and it is good to have at
least two admin accounts in any case. On the other hand I managed to remove
Administrator account from Safe mode Welcome screen following these steps:

1. Click Start / run and type regedit

2 . Open the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

3. Click Edit / New / Dword Value

4. Name it Administrator and then set the hexadecimal value to 0 (if you
want display the Administrator account change the value to 1)

Or you can de-activate it following this:

- Click Start/Run and type net user administrator /active:no

You can still logon with the Administrator account in safe mode
(Ctrl+Alt+Del+De and type Administrator). But as I said you never know when
you are going to need it, so don't remove it!

The Administrator password was set during the Windows installation and you
can change it when loged on with your personal account.

As far as I know, even if you try, you can't delete the built-in
Administrator account. DON'T DISABLE THE ACCOUNT!!! Sooner or later
you are going to need it! Maybe sooner than you might think! Leave it
alone.

John

I would strongly reccomend that you leave the built in account alone; it is
excellent for troubleshooting as I have used it many a time to solve running
issues with many customer computers and even mine.
