Password not saved whn connect to e-mail server. 290684 not help

I deleted my email accounts in Office Outlook 2003 because of other problems.
When I reinstalled them the passwords to both pop3 accounts won't save in
Office. They work when entered directly but not saved.
I've tried MS article 290684 3 times but nothing changes.
I.E. saving registry, dealing with permissions, deleting key, rebooting,
going to mail and resetting passwords.
any suggestions?

Have you found an answer, yet? I'm having the same problem on one account
(of three), and have gone through the same process you describe with no
effect. I have yo manually enter my password in order to receive (but not to
send).

No it didn't help although for some I'm sure that it will. I finally ended
up doing a file and settings migration backup using windows xp utility.
After doing that, I did a destructive format of my hard drive and reinstalled
the OS including Microsoft Office. This time it worked.
