Password not remembered

Strange thing: When i change the password of a useraccount with admin priv.
Windows is not remebering it. Because when i login and type the new password
a screen appears saying that the password is wrong. Also my old password is
not working. So i have to login as administrator, and remove the password for
that user.

Even if i create a new useraccount with a password, i get the same message
when loggin in.

Please help!!! (XP + sp2)

Is the computer a member of an Active Directory domain and is this a domain
user account?? If so check that the computer has proper DNS name resolution
and connectivity to the domain controllers which it should be able to ping
by name and IP address. Also check the logs via Event Viewer to see if any
errors/warnings are shown that may be of help. --- Steve

Sorry that i didn't mention that, but the laptop is stand-alone. The event
log is showing noting.

It does not show any logon failures at all at times when the user attempts
to logon and can not?? How are you changing the user's password and do you
get any error message when you attempt to do such?? --- Steve
