password for signing on to Windows XP Home

This summer I bought the Home Edition for the computer
downstairs, which is my main one to use. One for this
one, which I haven't been able to set it up all yet, and
an upgrade for one that had Windows 98. The main one
that's listed in file as 'sunroom computer' and this one
is listed as 'playroom computer'. I can't get on with the
Windows XP Home in 'sunroom' with the password I had put
in. I am the only administrator and I don't know what to
do. I thought if changed, I tried an older one that I
thought maybe a power glitch had caused the problem. I
have gone through many things and I can get on through my
15yr.old son's Windows but he is listed only
as 'limited', so I can't change it through his. I had
everything finally downloaded on that one and was in the
process of working on the others. I had spoken with
someone at Microsoft when purchasing the programs from
them over the phone and I was told I had free tech
support. If I can't get on that windows, how can get the
support or figure out what the password is? I live in
Alabama and my number would be listed with Microsoft. I
don't want to have to completely redo this all again and
hoped someone could tell me of a way to get within the
system to find out the password as the other of my son's
works fine. It's just that I can't get on with my Windows
and either I'm to feel stupid or scared because I don't
know what to do. I have registered the XP Home and other
programs installed so I have all the proper information.
I don't know what to do next and I'm hoping someone can
help me. I've kept my AOL email as I do have one through
msn, but I have DSL also through BellSouth and don't use
that as main email. It's easier to keep what I have since
I've been using it for many years and have had no
problem. We had the computers 'networking' but having to
do some things different since going with DSL. Please
inform me if there is anyone or anyway I can receive
assistance in fixing this problem. If any other
information is needed, my phone number should be listed
in the system. I felt the email would be better and then
if more info is needed, then we can go from there.
Kind Regards- Janice

I figured out what to do by setting computer in 'safe
mode' and with the CD-Rom that came with the WindowsXP
Home, inserted in drive D and let it just run and get to
'Recovery Console' which overrides the sytem somehow. Go
to Start, Control Panel,User Accounts, and click on
Administrator. From there you can delete your password.
Then when you get out of that, restart and sign on your
screen on Windows and do the same steps of start, control
panel, user accounts, go to your screen, and then you can
put a new password in. Be sure to save it on the Reset
Disks you can make by going to the site and if you don't
have CD-Rom compatible, you can use 'floppy disk' to
download program which takes 6 floppies. Do this just in
case you're in situation without a CD-Rom Drive and
definitely make your 'password protected' by going to the
items listed on top left- Related Tasks. Your user
account and click on 'prevent a forgotten password'.
Click next, insert floppy in Drive A, in category
of 'current user account password' type your password,
click next(just follow what the 'wizard' or instructions
you have, and when progress bar reaches 100% complete,
then finish it through. Save this in a very safe place so
if your password gets messed up or forgotten, you have
this reset disk already set. I'm so inept with these
things so I feel very good that I kept attempting at
different things I would read to solve my problem. I hope
this helps others. ~Janice from Alabama
