password for dialup

I have a dialup connection but for some crazy reason XP
wants to add more characters to my password, it isn't the
correct password as my password is 6 characters long.
I've been searching for an answer but I don't see a
workaround. What's the problem?

XP always shows 16 characters for a dial-up Internet password,
regardless of the password's actual length. If that's what you're
seeing, try connecting. It should work.
