Can anyone tell me why it is that a couple of xp machines on a network do not
alert the user of password expiry. It's only a couple out of 80 xp pc's. The
server is win2003.

Are you on a domain, and do all users log into the domain (not the local
machine)? Everyone/everything in the same OUs in Active Directory?

Hi -

If this is set as a domain policy it's possible the machines aren't
receiving policy updates or that policy has been overridden on the local
machine. There are a couple of things you can check -

First would be to insure fast logon is disabled. This can prevent machines
from receiving a policy update. You can set this as either a domain or local
policy - you can find the in the group policy editor here:

Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\ Always wait
for the network at computer startup and logon

If that doesn't help I'd force the policy update on the workstation by
logging into the domain, opening a command prompt window and typing

gpupdate /force

This will force a policy refresh.

One last thing to look for if this is applied as a domain policy is if the
policy is being overridden on the local machine. I'd look at the domain
policy template - and see first if it can be overridden and second, if the
policy is being refreshed periodically.

Hope this helps -
