Password at start up

I just got my daughter a used gateway pc, and when I turn it on it
automatically asks me for a password. Ive tried to use the F1 and F8 feature
but Im having no success. Anyone have any sudgestions? It would be much
appreciated.

If you mean it immediately, before loading Windows or any other bootup
actions, prompts for password, then it's been set in the system's BIOS.

If you have the manual, or can find the tech specs on the model, their may
be a jumper on the motherboard to clear the CMOS settings, which should
clear the password. Failing that, simply remove the battery on the
motherboard for 15 minutes or so.
