SOmething happened, or I installed something, and when I reboot, it asks
me for a username and password. There is no username or password, I hit
enter, and Windows loads.

How can I prevent this so that when I reboot, it goes directly to my
desktop?

Thanks in advance for your help!

out on the keyboard:

Hi Chaz,

You can use the MS Powertoy TweakUI:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
which has a lot of nice features besides a way to log in under "Logon"
and "Autologon".

Or click Start, Run, type

control userpasswords2

and click OK.

Make sure "Users must enter a user name ..." is unchecked.

Start | Run, type "control userpasswords2" Select the account you want to
logon to automatically. Then uncheck the box "Users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer."

Or do the same thing with TweakUI.

On my EeePC 1020HD Laptop (XP SP3) I used TweakUI to eliminate the
password on boot and that worked fine. However it still insists on a
password when recovering from hibernation. As with the OP there is no
password and I just hit enter and I'm in. Where is the secret place to
eliminate this one?

Sorry, my experience with hibernation is so little that I'm not a good
person to answer this question. Perhaps someone else here can pop in and
answer for you.
