Passwoods no longer saved

I use Firefox mostly but sometimes IE if needed. I've told both of these
to save passwords. A short time ago no IDs and passwords were saved for
any site, even those that always recalled them.

The settings are still "save passwords."

Does anybody have any idea why this is happening. I think this happened
when I installed XP SP3.
