Hello.

Please could someone help me. I am not too knowledgable on all this, and HP
are..... less helpful than imagined.

Yesterday I installed Passport 2.0 as an optional extra to the November
Windows Updates. My problem is as soon as I have restarted my PC (as
prompted) I now get the error message along the lines of "PCHNOTIFY.EXE
FAILED TO START". I have no idea what PCHNOTIFY.EXE is, but I'd guess its
something to do with PC Health ???

From a quick scout round the 'net it would apear others had similar problems
with Passport1.1. You may thin this is HPs fault, but as I say, there coming
back to me on it....

Could someone at least tell me how to revert back to Passport 1.1
(preferrably without using system restore as that nearly always causes
complete chaos for me!... yeah this is probably my fault)

Kind Regards,

S

Passport 2.0 has been out since 2001 according to PC World. I don't think
you installed it either?? I'm not 100% certain that you did not install it,
but I'm 99.9% certain that if you did you probably have done something
horribly wrong. Are you sure you don't mean the Microsoft .NET Framework
2.0?

Your pchnotify.exe is a utility that HP has added on to their OEM builds as
their method of providing help (or, as has been proposed, checking to see
what you're doing and on that subject I have no opinions.) As it's an OEM
product the support you will need to get will need to come from HP I'm
afraid. A good idea might be to check the HP site for updates for their
software to see if it's .NET 2.0 compatible. An alternative would be just
disabling the critter if you don't need it for anything.

I suppose I could say go ahead and uninstall the .NET update but, well, I'm
willing to bet that'd be problematic in the future when you download and
install other applications which may depend on the features and require the
update. I've not looked into it in any depth at this point so I could be
mistaken on that bit.

THANKS !!!

Looks like the HP program isn't that important then.

Oopps... my bad. See? I told you my tech knowledge was poor !

Any ideas how I can stop pchnotify.exe from starting up at all? Someone
elsewhere suggested using Anti-spyware beta???(!!!???)
