i want to put system, page file, and data on separate partitions. To get data
on this partition do I simply redirect the mydocuments folder? And how do i
make sure data isn't left on the desktop or on c drive?

thx

You are wise to put your system, paging file and documents on separate partitions. This is not at all required for Windows to run well, but you will find it convenient.

Don't put the system and page file on separate partitions of the same hard disk. That will reduce your computer's performance. If you want to put the page file on a separate partition, put that partition on a separate hard disk. However it makes no sense to do this if the second hard disk is slower than the first hard disk (e.g. 5400 rpm vs. 7200 rpm).

Putting the paging file on a second hard disk may result in faster performance, in theory, but you will be most unlikely to notice any difference.

As for moving your documents, not a problem:

1 Create the new folder
2 Click Start
3 Right "My Documents" and select properties
4 Change the target folder location to the new folder/location
5 Move your files
6 Rename the original folder (Delete it after you are sure everything works)

Applications should use the target entry from the properties window that you
changed to save documents

Moving mydocuments folder is easy but if mydocs is redirected to d: drive do
i still need to change the save path for all applications?

Could I redirect the >users >persons name folder under documents and
settings instead of changing the path for mydocuments?
