Partition Magic Errors 27 & 626

Hi I am trying to merge my primary partition which contains my OS (XP
Pro) with an empty partition on the same drive (as I am running out
of space on my primary partition). However I am using Partition Magic
8, the operation goes well until the computer has to re-set to apply
the change, at this point I get the following Errors;
1) Error 27 – Cannot Lock Drive
Followed by
2) Error 626 – Hard Drive Not Visible.

Could anyone with some knowledge on what I should do please help.

1) Error 27 – Cannot Lock Drive

Make sure that XMNT2002.EXE (the core) can fully gain exclusive access to
the drive. Some software may not let PartitionMagic exclusively use the
drive to perform its tasks. In case of emergency run PartitionMagic 8.0
outside of Windows (either from the CD or from the rescue disks)

2) Error 626 – Hard Drive Not Visible.

A drive or partition is not accessible in boot mode. To find out what's
going on a partiton info dump may be useful...

Kindly ensure other merging partition is peoperly format and does not
have any operation system.
