Partition Magic 8.x - Will not allow me to resize "c" drive

C

Chuck

Hi!

I have a 80GB hard drive. I currently have a MS DOS hidden partition
that is 2GB, and the remainder of the drive is split between two
windows xp pro partitions (drive c & d). The drive c is 15GB. The
drive d is approx. 60GB.

I have a fair amount of free space on this drive. I tried to resize
the
windows xp c drive, but PM 8 will not allow me to increase it size at
the bottom of the screen it says I have crossed 1024 cylinders and it
may not boot. I am having no problem with this.

Here is more detail on my paritions:

Is there a workaround for this?

Do I need to reduce the size of my hidden partition or my d drive?

I would greatly appreciate any constructive ideas?

Chuck

According to the PM disk readout, your 2gb hidden DOS partition is
located at the beginning of the drive. If the hidden partition is at
the front (beginning cylinders) of the drive, then PM will not allow
you to move your C partition for the reason it gave. You will need
to delete the hidden DOS partition and re-create it at the end of the
drive. Of course that will cause problems if you're using that hidden
DOS partition to boot DOS or another operating system.

Also, why in the world are you wasting all those clusters by using
FAT-32 on drive C and D? You should be using NTFS for maximum
efficiency. The 2gb hidden partition is bad enough formatted to
FAT-16!

Hi!

I am using the hidden partition for booting to DOS only so unless I am
mistaken I can not change to 32bit FAT using DOS only. I have several
legacy applications that will only run under DOS.

PowerQuest definitely needs to fix PM 8.02. After reading several more
threads I discovered that they have a problem with XP PRO SP1+. In my
case, their program produces an error 11019 when I try to resize a
partition. I booted from my rescue disks, took some of my d drive made
it unallocated and then used the unallocated space to add to my c
drive. I can not get this work however under windows xp pro and
according to what I have read am not alone with this problem. This
problem also exists in their 7.02 product.

Thank you for your assistance.

Chuck
