Partition Magic 8 Error

With WinXP Pro Sp1, I periodiclly backup my C: drive by making a duplicate
drive on an unsued part of my HD. Its worked fine for ages, but now I'm
getting this annoying error which stops me copying. It seems when PM copies
a drive, it gets to about 60% and then reports there is a bad cluster error.
I have scandisked my drive many times to find nothing. I have formatted the
destination area and scanned to find nothing. I have downloaded the PM8
patch to 8.01. Still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Graham -

Please report this problem to Symantec (who purchased PowerQuest's software
products). I have also observed this problem with my Partition Magic 8.01
(8.01 patch from 2003 applied).

I have only observed this specific error on my hard drives larger than 120GB
(48-bit Logical Block Addressing (LBA) issue ?? - > 137 Gb) .... but
additional data points to Symantec -- may be able to better identify the
real culprit (or root cause) for this error.

Try running "chkdsk /r " between 4 and 6 times. Although I haven't had the
problem with PartitionMagic, I did have it with DriveImage. This is the
solution that was suggested for the same type of error in their
KnowledgeBase.

It worked for one, so perhaps it'll work for another of their products too.

Good luck.....
