I will use my Hotmail page as an example -- in the last week or 2, whenever i
go to my hotmail page, there are certain parts of the page that are either
blocked or say "page cannot be displayed". What could be causing this? I
have read several articles about "page cannot be displayed", but I am afraid
to do anything, fearing to screw up my system more than what it is. PLEASE
HELP!!

Do you have a custom HOSTS file?

Do you have SpywareBlaster?

Do you have any real-time anti-spyware applications?

Any of these can block the third party advertisements on any web pages.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

I don't know what custom HOSTS files are (please help). I am using Webroot
Spysweeper, and as far as I know, I have not disabled image viewing (how do i
check that?)

Forgot, I also have Ad-Aware SE Personal.

Info about HOSTS file...
Blocking Unwanted Parasites with a Hosts File
http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm

[[One use of the host file is ad filtering. This is accomplished by adding a
line to the file that maps an ad server's hostname to 127.0.0.1 (home IP) or
0.0.0.0 (no IP). Then, when an internet-capable program attempts to contact
the advertiser, its request is rerouted and no advertisement can be
loaded. ]] Then you get "The page cannot be displayed" or "Action canceled"
message instead of the ad.

At
http://www.msn.com/
just below the SIGN IN button, there is an ad
http://global.msads.net/ads/3388/0000003388_000000000000000245381.gif

All I see is a red X and a Click Here! link.
This is the shortcut...
http://g.msn.com/0AD00028/807816.1??PID=2767023&UIT=M&TargetID=1048194&AN=1881819815&PG=MSNREC

If you click the shortcut you get redirected to...
http://ad.doubleclick.net/clk;23585...FID=dart&LNM=nov-holidayhub-DisplayAd-300x259

ad.doubleclick.net is not a good deal.

Wesley -- thanks for your help, but I am lost as far as what you sent me
last. I cannot click a cpl of the places you send because when I do, it says
"page cannot be displayed" on those. I don't know where to go or what to do
with "hosts" files, and such.

If you have the pay version of Ad-Aware SE Personal, it contains a deal
called Ad-Watch. Ad-Watch can block websites. I don't know much about
Webroot Spysweeper, but it can also block things. Look in Spysweeper help
for real time protection.
