Parental Controls

I tried to download and install a game off of Shockwave and the parental
controls forbid it to open. I do not even have them on. Please let me know
how to get past those as I would like to play some of the games. I do not
have any accounts set up so in essense, my whole family is set as
administrators.

If you don't have Parental Controls set, how do you know the Parental
Controls feature is what is preventing you from installing the Shockwave
game? Details needed:

1. What is the name of the game and from where are you downloading it (URL)?
2. What is the exact text of the error message you receive? Do you
receive the error when attempting to download or attempting to install?
3. What version of Vista do you have?
4. What antivirus/security software do you have?

Note: You do have a user account set up, even though your computer logs
in automatically (goes directly to the Desktop). You can see this user
account by going to the User Accounts applet in Control Panel. If you
didn't set it up and this is an OEM computer (Dell, HP, etc.), the user
account will be called something generic like "Owner" or "HP Administrator".

Denied Parental Controls have prevented this application from running." I
have AVG antivirus and Spyware. I do know a enough about computers to know
that I have my Gateway computer set up correctly and that I did not turn on
the parental controls. I have also been speaking with someone from Shockwave
and I am starting to believe that it is a compatibility issue as I can open
other games from that site.

You still didn't answer whether the problem is in downloading,
installing, or both. However, if you can download the game you might try
right-clicking the installer and choosing "Run as Administrator". Of
course if the Shockwave tech support people say the game won't run on
Vista, then that's your answer.

I have the same issue, only with the PopCap version of the game
(Family Feud). The game downloads and installs without issue, but will
not run. A Vista Parental Controls message pops up on launching the
game both on a user account with Parental Controls enabled and on an
admin account without. PopCap support says this is a known Vista
issue, but I've not been able to find any mention of it on the Vista
support site. My kids have several other PopCap games and all run just
fine.

I am having the same trouble with the same game. I know it's parental
controls because it's saying it,
Parental controls have prevented the application from running.
First i don't have parental controls on
Next i can't have parental controls on administrative accounts. Which
is all we have on our computer.
I actually had a compounded prob. when this started it actually
refused to let me see the settings on out computer until i put a
password on my husbands side because he's also an administrative
account.
So why is this game not playing?

I have the same issue, only with the PopCap version of the game
(Family Feud). The game downloads and installs without issue, but will

I actually work for HP tech support. I spoke with a customer today
that was having your issue. She had the trial of PopCap Games version
of Family Feud and it worked fine. She purchased the full version from
the website. After that, it gave her the error message "parental
controls have prevented this application from running." She had no
parental controls set, so I was practically lost. After pulling my
hair out for a while, I finally decided to try changing the
compatibility settings to Windows XP SP2. To do this, follow the steps
below.

1. Find the executable file (familyfeud.exe)
2. Right-click on it and select properties.
3. Click on the compatibility tab at the top of the window.
4. Put a checkmark in the box by "Run this program in compatibility
mode for"
5. Change the option in the dropdown to Windows XP SP2.
6. Click "Apply" and "Ok"
7. You should now be able to run the program just fine.

I hope this helps. It fixed the issue with no problems afterwards.
