I am trying to repair windows xp, and I'm using an
article in the knowlege base. When I get to this part:

'Type the administrator password when you are prompted to
do so, and then press ENTER.

Note If no administrator password exists, just press
ENTER.
At the command prompt, type the following commands (press
ENTER after each command): CD C:\Windows\System32
\ConfigREN system system.oldCOPY C:\Windows\Repair\system
Remove the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD.
To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer,
type exit, and then press ENTER.'

I get either "Parameter Not Valid" or "Cannot find file
or directory specified".

The article says to type Enter after each command, but I
don't know when the command ends and a new one begins.
I've been typing in the whole command--CD
C:\Windows\System32\ConfigREN system system.oldCOPY
C:\Windows\Repair\system

Is this correct?

At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command):
CD C:\Windows\System32\Config(enter)
REN system system.old(enter)
COPY C:\Windows\Repair\system(enter)
Remove the Windows XP startup disks or the Windows XP CD.
To exit the Recovery Console and restart the computer,
type exit, and then press ENTER.'

Hope this helps

Hi,

Someone else have given you the correct thing to do. Could you please post
back with the article number containing these instructions?

Hi,

That one I am aware of and have already made some contacts in regards to
fixing it. I was wondering if there was another one.
