Parallel to usb printer conversion cable

I have been offered a nice laser printer that uses a parallel port. I
run XP home on a laptop with no parallel port. Can I get a converter
cable? And is it likely to work? I googled cables and there are a ton
of types. Please advise. Thank you, Carol M

Lateral thinking - if you connect to the internet via a router, then buy
a "pocket print server" that sits on the printer's parallel port and
connects to the router/switch via a patch cable. Might be an alternative?

you might check the web site of the printer manufacturer to see if they have anything like that available.

and to be sure there are drivers available for your system for the printer.

Yes they work and no drivers are needed they are built in to XP. Keep in
mind that these cables are for printing only. They do not work for those
all-in one printer, fax, scanners.

Yes, you can get a cable. Go to your local office supply store and
ask about purchasing one. I have 3 and they all work and are all of
different brands.

Good luck.

Yes! I bought one a while ago from Staples to connect my HPIIIp laser
printer to my new Dell which has no parallel port. Works just fine.
USB connector on one end, standard Centronics printer connector on the
other end.
