the creator,
No listing for Visioneer One Touch 8600 in explore.
Did a search only listing appears in Control Panel under cameras and
Scanners

Hi Old Man, :)

Uninstall the current Visioneer Scanner and then remove it from the
computer. Reboot.

Go to
https://visupport.visioneer.com/Portal/view.aspx?id=e20cb17f-2342-4dc1-beac-33d87649ad36

If the top link doesn't work, go to http://www.visioneer.com/ then click
Downloads. The driver for the 8600 is located in Scanners for Home and click
that. Scroll down and click on your Scanner.

Download and install that Visioneer Driver for the 8600. Reboot.

Plug the Visioneer OneTouch 8600 into the computer and let Windows
install the drivers for the product. Reboot.

Use Explore and see if there is now a Twain Driver for the 8600
installed. Close Explore.

Start Paperport and see if it can find the Scanner, now.

the creator,

Thanks for your continuous help and replies.
Downloading and installing 8600 driver has corrected many issues.
Going to Paperport desktop to do a scan I now have a choice of visioneer
scan manager or Visioneer Onetouch 8600. Visioneer Onetouch still comes up
with Twain device error, but choosing visioneer scan manager brings up screen
for scan and setup choices which was previously missing.
Only problem now is I don't have scan icon in taskbar on the lower right
side which includes connect, configure, close. Looked in help and KB
articles on the web site with no success. It would appear upon boot or
restart. Tried initwain.exe with no success.

Thanks again.

Should have mentioned One Touch monitor did not configure it's self. Unable
to use One Touch buttons on scanner. Going to start, programs, paperport.
One touch Monitor brings up error message, version 3.0, Unsupported
operation was attempted. Was able create shortcut for the configure screen
which will appear.

the creator,

Thanks for your many follow ups. I have solved my problem.
You suggestion to download the driver was partly the solution. Going to
visioneers web site KB articles with the error code the driver provided sent
me directly to the solution. "Unsupported operation attempted.". Without
that code I would still be searching with no end in sight. Paperport web
site was totally useless. KB articles really have no direction to a
solution. You will windup cross eyed reading answers. Would not attempt to
upgrade to new version of paperport. Big hassle.
From what I see in many newsgroups very few would have continued with follow
ups as you did

Many, many thanks again.

Paper Port doen not contain any drivers for your scanner.
I recently purchased and downloaded paper port 11 to replace the original
program that came with my Epson scanner. I remover the old program which
contained the scanner drivers. I then inserted the scanner CD and searched
for the scanner twain drivers and installed them. Then I loaded the Paper
Port 11 program. Works like a charm.
