Explanation of PaperPort crash?

Hello. I posted this question in a scanner NG but received no
response. And the company (Scansoft) that sells my scanner software
(PaperPort) has a online community forum but it is currently not working.

My PC is a desktop, running XP Home SP2. 1GB of system RAM, 256MB of
video RAM. Pentium D processor at 3.0GHz. I have a Visioneer 5800USB
flatbed scanner. PaperPort Deluxe 7.02 is the software that came with it.
I have noticed a peculiar problem with this program. Here is how I
replicate it:

1) I scan a document or photo using PaperPort 7
2) Afterwards, I open this image, and click the 'Zoom In' button several
times until I need scroll bars to see the entire image.
3) At this point, PaperPort crashes. "PaperPort has encountered a problem
and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Would you like to
tell Microsoft about this?" Yada, yada....

PaperPort 7.02 is a rather old software program, introduced about 6
years ago. However, I have another, older computer using the exact same
scanner, scanner software, and operating system, and I cannot replicate this
crash. Any ideas about this? If I use a program like IrfanView, I can
enlarge a photo to any extreme with no problems.

If this is old software/scanner it can work perfectly well on your older
computer (are you sure your old computer is running XP?), but the driver for
this scanner does not work on XP. You need to go to the scanner manufacturer
site and look for a driver compatible with XP.

According to Visioneer, the scanner driver installed on both my
computers is XP compatible. And it is the latest one. This driver works
just fine on my second PC, which is also running XP Home SP2.
