paperclip NOT showing

Strange, I am slightly embarrassed since recently I suggested someome
forgot to send me an attachment (several times), when in fact they
did. I did this since no icon was appearing when opening the message
nor no paperclip showing in the normal view. BUT if I go to
"file/save attachments" there is the word document in all its glory.

Can someone shed some light on this?
