Panasonic KXP 1123

Hello,

Where could I find information on how to open up a Panasonic KXP 1123 dot
matrix printer? There is a mailing label stuck inside of the printer, and see
no apparent way of getting inside of it. The printer otherwise works fine.
However, the printer cannot load regular paper except through its bottom feed
slot because of the stuck label. Could not find anything on the Net from
Yahoo!, Goggle, etc. about disassembling this type of printer.

Cheers!
Bob

There may not be anything on the net, because of the age of the printer
and the rarity of the need. I've taken the platen out of at least one
impact printer, although it wasn't that model. Not much fun, but the
same as anything else: remove the case and frame parts to get to the
platen (keep track of screws in order), remove snap rings and gears if
necessary to free the platen, clean off the stuck label, replace
everything in reverse order. Pay attention as you go, because if you
keep printing labels on that printer, you'll probably be doing it again
at some point.

Now that I think about it, I've never had that problem with a page-feed
printer, either inkjet or laser, even when people have expressly asked
for trouble by feeding partial pages of labels where some have already
been removed.

This isn't an easy one to fix without dismantling the printer, but, when
you say the printer won't accept paper via the regular paper load, is it
because the label is blocking the entrance, or because the sticker is
cover one of the rollers and the paper is slipping?

I am trying to visualize how the sticker is sitting and what it adhered to.

I'm thinking if the sticker is blocking the entrance, you may be able to
slip a medium heavy sheet of paper or stiff cardboard or even a stiff
plastic and slowly try to advance it and get it to dislodge and perhaps
if you are lucky, it will adhere to that paper/cardboard.

If not, it may tear, which may either allow the paper to be used or it
may be easier to remove it.

Sometimes one can coax a sticker out by getting it to stick to something
else.

Hello Folks,

Thanks to all for the helpful advice. The link and related document
from Mön§igñor B. should help me to at least open the case. The mailing
label that got stuck inside sticks very good, too good --- as I have not
been able to dislodge it using thicker paper, plastic, etc., with the
label being stuck behind the platen roller. Do not have any metal thin
and strong enough to attempt to remove the obstruction. I will write
back when I get a chance to work on the printer, and let you know how it
went..

Best Regards,
Bob
