installing a driver--how

A friend of mine recently got a computer with XP HOME.

He also attached an old Panasonic dot matrix printer (KXp-1123).

Anyway, it works well but not perfectly. For example, if he uses WORD or
WORKS and sets the page at 8 1/2 by 4 1/2 it still thinks it is 8 1/2 by 11.

I suspect he does not have the right driver.

I did a google search and it sounds like that driver should come with XP. So
I then searched my own C drive and found pakx1123.qpd located in
C:\i386\DRIVER.cab

That's on MY computer and I assume it is the correct driver. I will also
assume I can find that file on his computer.

My question: How can I tell if that driver is already installed and if it
is not installed how do I install it??

You open Device Manager, highlight the printer in question, rt-click, select
update driver and let Windows search for an updated driver.

But then a quick search on Panasonic site would show whether an xp driver is
available
