I was working with 'Paint' in XP when the
computer 'froze': absolutely nothing. When I re-booted,
I could no longer access 'Paint'. Can't even reinstall
it as a component. Surely I don't have to do a full XP
re-install??

Hello!
You goto control panel >Administrative Tools >Event
Viewer-Here you look for the application error log.

Try the same in Safe mode.

Also try:-

Start >Run >sfc\ scanow >ok

Scan your system with LATEST VIRUS DEFINITIONED antivirus

Hi Bryan,

Try this old trick:

Close any/all instances of MSPaint. Then start/run regedit, navigate to this
key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Applets\Paint

Hightlight (click on it) that key and delete it. Close the registry editor
and reopen Paint.
