Paint reduces picture

I click on Print Screen, then open Paint and enlarge the reproduction area
to the full screen and click on Ctrl and V. The reproduction is perfect. I
then click on Save As, select Documents and JPEG ect. but when I Preview the
result it is reduced to about 4" x 6" and the text is unreadable. Why is the
result reduced in size? What do I do wrong?

Unless u r resizing pic, I suspect u r viewing with different
magnifications. Open it with IE or ensure both views r 100%.

JPEG also makes the file compressed, which makes it smaller in size, but
decreases the image quality. Text may indeed become unreadable because of
this. Saving as .BMP will keep the full image quality but for makes a huge
image file (Desktop size is approx 2.25 Megs, depending on resolution).

If you are Previewing the picture with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer,
hit Ctrl + A to show the Actual Size. Hit Ctrl + B to go back to Best Fit.
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer opens larger pictures in Best Fit as default.
The Slide Show opens pictures in the largest size that will fit your
monitor's screen.

Thank you for the reply, but when I tried to Save As with 24 - bit Bitman
the reproduction was even slightly smaller and any others in that category
produced warning that the reproduction quality will be even less. Can you
comment on that?

Many thanks for the reply, but I very often Save As the images in My
Documents and send them as attachments to emails. When I did that on my main
computer (I am now using my standby PC, because my main one crashed and I
cannot start it in any mode) everything was perfect and when I had a preview
all was the actual size,(save in JPEG) now although I have the same Windows
on this PC and use the same procedures, somehow I cannot achieve the same
results!

Zygy,

If you send pictures as attachments, they can be resized. To send the photo
without reducing the size of the file, click Keep the original sizes in the
Send Pictures via E-Mail dialog.

If you open an E-mail message first and then attach the pictures, you will
not get the Send Pictures via E-Mail dialog and the pictures will not be
resized. You get the Send Pictures via E-Mail dialog when you select
picture file(s) first and then select Send To | Mail Recipient

<quote>
Windows provides a special feature for sending photos or pictures in e-mail.
By providing the opportunity for you to reduce the file size of your photo
at the time you send it, Windows solves the problem of a large file
attachment never reaching its destination. In addition to reducing file
size, this feature also changes the dimensions of the image so that it fits
better on a computer screen.

You can change the settings to specify the size of the image. You can make
the size of the image smaller, but you cannot make a small image larger. If
your picture is bigger than the largest size indicated in the dialog box,
and you do not want Windows to reduce the size of the image, choose to keep
the original size. Making changes to the settings for sending a photo in
e-mail does not alter the original picture.
<quote>

If the Sendmail.dll file is corrupted you will never get the Send Pictures
via E-Mail wizard. Or if the shimgvw.dll file needs to be registered.

Why don't the Resize Pictures dialog appear while sending picture to e-mail?
http://www.winxptutor.com/resizeimage.htm

You are not prompted to resize an image when you send the image by e-mail
from Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883393

Why don't you restate exactly what your problem is because, I for one have
been guessing.

Thank you for the very comprehensive explanations of solutions to my
problem. However, in previous posting you advised me to use Windows Picture
and Fax Viewer. I had both on my other PC but for the life of me I cannot
find either on this PC! How should I go about finding Windows Picture and
Fax Viewer?

Secondly, How do I deal with the problem of attaching readable copy of Saved
As document to a Reply email?

Zygy,

Windows Picture and Fax Viewer = shimgvw.dll

rundll32.exe (Run a DLL as an App) executes it.

The Windows Picture and Fax Viewer is normally the default picture viewer in
Windows XP. Third party picture viewer or editing applications can steal
the file associations and disable the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Normally if everything is okie dokie, if you right click any picture file,
click Preview, the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer should open that picture.
Double clicking any picture file should do the same thing. When the Windows
Picture and Fax Viewer opens a picture, you should see the filename and file
extension followed by Windows Picture and Fax Viewer in the Title bar.

I.e. File_name.ext - Windows Picture and Fax Viewer

Also in a picture folder, if you click on: View as a slide show, Windows
Picture and Fax Viewer runs the slide show.

If the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer does NOT open pictures and you want to
re-enable it...

Click Start | Click Run | Paste: regsvr32 shimgvw.dll | Click OK

If that doesn't work...

Visit here...
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Read the instructions at the top
Scroll down to
80. Disable or Restore Picture and Fax Viewer
Click on Restore

pictureandfaxrestore.reg is the file that you want.
