Paint fails to save changes?

I have been trying to use MS Paint on XP. I make some changes to an
image, click save, and they are not saved, on a local disk. Sometimes,
the image itself in Paint reverts back to the original / unmodified
image.

What gives?

Tried "save as" so you can see *where* you are saving too?

Tried "save as" so you can see *where* you are saving too?

I am saving to my local hard drive. File is not read-only.

I have tried that and I am using "Save" so that I am writing over the
original. All worked fine in 2000.

I have since found that another image edit program is doing the same
thing.

What kind of images? Things you have created in Paint, or images you have
imported?
It may be the filters are damaged or missing,
