Paging File problem

I had a bad shutdown of Windows2K, now the paging file
seems to be bad. When I boot up, Windows informs me
that "there is no paging file, or the paging file size is
too small", then proceeds to create a temporary paging
file. When I use the GUI to create a new paging file, it
prompts to reboot, but upon reboot gives me the same
error. (I set the paging file to 1.5x RAM.) I have also
tried deleting pagefile.sys but still get the same error
message. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Yes I can,
This happens if the permission for SYSTEM has been removed from the C drive
rights section, I'm going to assume you don't know how to put it back (and
if you do excuse me for treating you as though your thick)

Bring up Explorer
Right Click the C drive
Click Properties
Click Security
If SYSTEM is there and has full rights remove it and readd it, if its not
there Add it and give it full rights

Set your paging file size and reboot,

Your comments are appreciated , I only learnt this after it happened to
me, unfortunately I didn't have access to the net at the time and solved it
with a reinstall, did exactly the same as I had done (removed SYSTEM as part
of security tightening) before I realised what was causing it.

Normally the System permissions are removed by User intervention. If it
happened due to an unexpected shutdown then there is something else going
on. Whether that is important it may not be. It's just unusual for
unexpected shutdowns to change NTFS permissions. But I suppose it could
happen.
