pages very slow to open when address typed in address bar

using windows xp pro and ie 6.0, when an address is typed in the address bar,
the page will take up to 90 seconds (on T1) to load- without showing any
visible signs of working until the page suddenly pops up. this has also
affected navigation using the drop down and selecting from the history list.
clicking a link from within a page loads immediately. anyone have any
suggestions?

Hi,
This could be an Autocomplete problem- corruption in the History folder or
index.dat file. Delete the History folder for that user, then restart. You
will have to login as another user with administrative privileges to delete
the History folder.

Or, this might be a malware problem. Download and run CWShredder, Ad-aware,
Spybot.

I had this exact same problem. I used anti- spyware utilities to detect the
problem. I used adaware, spybot and microsoft antispyware, but nothing was
detected. In the end I had to uninstall internet explorer. When I restarted
my computer microsoft spyware detected Claria.DashBar. I removed this, then
re-installed internet explorer. Everything is fine now. It seems that this
was a very tricky spyware that was able to hide undetected.
