pagefile.sys

sjs

I understand the pagefile.sys file is a virtual memory
source for the OS. I have a laptop that has a
pagefile.sys file on the root of C: with a size of 786Mb.
However, my laptop doesn't have a pagefile.sys file.

Is this file necessary or is it just eating up hard drive
space. On the other hand, do I need to configure a
pagefile.sys file on my laptop?

tks,
steve

You should have a pagefile.sys file. The actual file size may not be as large as the space allocated. Have you allowed Windows to manage your virtual memory as recommended?

Start, Control Panel, System,Advanced, Performance, Settings, Advanced, Virtual Memory, Change.

To see what is on your hard drive you need to change a number of settings. Select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, Advanced Settings, and check "Show hidden files and folders". Whilst there uncheck "Hide File Extensions". Also check "Display the contents of system folders". Have you already done this?

Hope this helps.
