Pagefile.sys

Good Day,
I'm trying to change my page file size in XP Home, 640 Mb
RAM (256-256-128), 20Gb HD, To reduce the size.

I would like to set the initial size to 1/2 my RAM (320)
and max to 1x (640). I can set the page file to 0 - no
page file and I can set it to system managed 960 (958
recommended).
When I set the custom size, after reboot of course, I
get back to the 959Mb pagefile.sys even though the
settings still indicate a custom size of 320-640.
This occurs with several combinations s/a 320-1280, 320-
1920,etc. Always reverting back to 959Mb pagefile.

I've read through both these articles:

http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm

http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/expertzone/columns/mcfe
d
ries/03june16.asp

Any suggestions here would be most appreciated.
TIA,
John

Thanks, but not the trick!
Strange, but when I boot into safe mode, pagefile.sys is
320 Mb, but log on as a user, 959. Stranger, both files
created at the same time and date.

Do you perhaps have two copies of pagefile.sys on the drive, say one
in the \Windows folder and one in the root?

Try deleting the 959 mb pagfile.sys file from Windows Explorer. If it
is the one that is being used by Windows it will not let you delete
it.

Good luck

.
I've read through many of the ng posts thru google and
found one that suggested NAV *playing* with the pagefile.
I disabled Norton's Anti-Virus(2004) auto-protect from
loading at startup and guess what!
Now the pagefile.sys is the correct size (320Mb).
Thanks to all that responded!

One more reason for concluding that NAV2004 *is* a virus.
