Pagefile.sys resizes itself regardless of the custom setting.

I have 512MB of physical RAM installed, and I really have no need for a lot
of virtual memory. For some reason, Windows thinks that the virtual memory
always needs to be 1.5 time the amount of installed RAM. That seems
backwards! I don't need 768MB of virtual memory, but Windows says I do. I
want to set mine to 256MB and leave it there. When I change it, Windows
still insists that I need 766MB of RAM, not what I want. And even THAT
doesn't add up. 1.5 times 512 is 768. I want to set my pagefile.sys to be
no more or no less than 256MB, and I don't want Windows to override my
choice. How do I tell windows to "butt out" and let ME decide?

You can R.click my computer,properties,advanced,virtual-memory,advanced,
click the change button, then set the drive as you want, click set 2X,is the
trick. You can also go to run,type:regedit,expand:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
system\currentcontrolset\control\sessionmanager\then open memorymanage-
ment.L.click on DisablePagingExecutive Then go to edit, modify, set to 1 from
0 then close out regedit. This increases the NT executive to ram instead of
page file.

Its usually best to let the o/s handle the VM
Because its shown as set to 768mb it doesnt mean the the o/s is using 768.
I'm presently showing 492mb of VM in use, and I have 512mb ram installed,
and I'm doing v.little on the sys at this time.
Forcing the VM to be no more than 250mb is likely to have unforseen
consequences.
What exactly is it that makes you wish to force the VM setting?
