Pagefile size growing and growing

Possible after failed usb-printer installation (xp pro laptop, fully
winupdated, 512 RAM) the memory usage grows and grows. In couple hours
pagefile size is 2 GBs. CPU usage is normal. Taskmanager tells me that total
memory usage (all users) is less than 0,5 GB. Perhaps corrupted drivers or
something else uses the rest?

I have deleted failed printer, disabled anti-virus and finally booted from
xp installation CD and reinstalled XP (the repair option).

What to do next? I don't want to fully reinstall XP from zero.

It sounds like you are having the same problem as the person who posted just before you
( Luc posted a message titled "Memory growing endlessly" about an hour
before you posted this.

Take a look at my response to his post and try that.

It could be that you both got some new virus, worm, or something. If that's the case, then I'll see what I can do to help weed it
out.

Hi

I managed to run AV in the safe mode and it founded and removed some
(malware?). Unfortunately it didn't help. So I reinstalled XP with quick
format option and now my laptop works fine. Clean install also solves other
performance problems.
