My PC seems to be running slowly lately (XP Pro/Office Pro2002) ...

I inadvertantly notice in my FTP client that a number of files exist on the
C:\ directory but remain hidden even after checking view 'hidden files' in
Folder Options.

Not surprised that files exist without my knowledge or general access within
Windows but note in my FTP client the SIZE of a couple of these system files.

Pagefile.sys : 786,432Kb ...

Hyberfil.sys : 523,828Kb ...

Now that is like 1.3Gb Windows is draggging around and my simple mind tells
me this cannot be good ... ???

I would like to delete them buuuuutttt ???????

All thoughts appreciated ...

Leave it alone. It's used as RAM.

Hyberfil.sys : 523,828Kb ...
Disable Hibernation and you can delete this file.
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Power Options ->"Hibernate" tab -> uncheck "Enable
hibernation" -> Apply -> OK

Pagefile.sys is needed. It's part of the virtual memory system. As a
default, when system managed, XP creates a page file that's 1.5x the
amount of memory. There must be 512MB memory in this system (which is
also consistent with the size of the hiberfil.sys file size). Depending
on the programs you use that amount of page file may be too much. See
this link for info on virtual memory in XP and how to set the pagefile
for optimum use: http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm

Hiberfil.sys (not hyberfil.sys) is created when the hibernation function
is used. It is equal in size to the amount of installed ram. If you
don't want it there turn of hibernation from Control Panel | Power
Options | Hibernate.

To see these files in Folder Options untic the option to Hide protected
operating system files.
