Page won't open without QuickTime... or with it

I'm having a weird problem displaying graphics from the web site of
the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

When I try to display certain types of pages I get a message box which
says that IE cannot display the page until I install Quicktime. That
sounds bizarre, since the pages cannot possibly be animated. I
installed Quicktime but just kept getting the same message.

I had no trouble displaying the pages from a computer at work. The
browser appeared to be using a TIFF reader, which made much more sense
than Quicktime.

I'm using Windows XP SP1 with IE 6. My machine also has Firefox
installed; it gets the same error when I try to use it to display this
type of page.

Here are instructions for viewing a typical page that causes problems
on my system.

1. Go to http://www.uspto.gov.

2. In the left column, under "Patents," click "Search."

3. Under "Issued Patents," click "Quick Search."

4. In the "Term 1" field, enter "5896252" (or the number of any other
issued U.S. patent). In the "Field 1" field, select "Patent Number."
Click "Search."

5. Click the "Images" button near the top of the screen.

6. In the left column, click "Drawings."

If it works, the browser will display the first page of drawings in
the patent. If it doesn't work, it will either display the message
about needing QuickTime, or will simply display the icon for "can't
retrieve the file."

My email address is LLM041103 at earthlink dot net.

I don't have QuickTime installed and nothing on the Images or Drawings pages
display here. I only get the three-color placeholder.

If you have both QuickTime and a Norton or McAfee app installed, try
disabling any Script Blocker which might be included with the latter.
