Page won't load

We have a toll-free dial-up number. After we connect, IE
tries to open the home page but after a few seconds, it
switches to trying to open another page. Then it will
switch back to trying to open the home page. But it NEVER
opens any page! A friend has recently downloaded some
updates and who knows what else. It worked fine before he
worked on it. Norton is not catching anything. What have
we done and how can we fix it?

The first thing to do is to scan your system for the possibility of
unknown\unwanted spyware or parasites that may be causing your problem(s).
