Page numbers appear as ghosts but will not print

After inserting page numbers into my document the page numbers appear as
light blue-grey in the document. They do not appear at all in the print
preview. They will not print at all either. Does this sound familiar?
After many determined but wasted hours at this I bring my questions to the
informed masses.

If the page numbers are in the header or footer, they will appear dimmed
when you are working in the document. If they are not showing in Print
Preview and not printing, perhaps they are in the printer's unprintable area
(seehttp://word.mvps.org/FAQs/Formatting/BottomsDontPrint.htm). Try
increasing the header/footer margin.

What version of Word are you using?

If you are in 2003, my first guess would be that the Footer style (or
whatever style is applied to your page numbers) is formatted either as hidden
text or as a gray so light it doesn't show up on the print copy.

Open the Format -- Styles and Formatting task pane. Then go to the header or
footer that contains your page numbers, and place the cursor in the page
number. The style should appear in the task pane. Right click on the style
name and see what formatting is applied to it. If a font color is specified,
go to Format - Font and select the color you want.

I hope this helps.
