How do I insert a page number with added characters, more specifically

What version of Word is that article writing about?

I use Word 2007 and it didn't work for me.

The article has been rewritten for Word 2007. What are you having problems
with?

Note that the way to set up numbered headings is a bit different in Word
2007. Assuming that you want the 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, ... format for numbering,
the quickest way is to choose the "1 Heading 1 1.1 Heading 2" scheme at Home
tab | Multilevel List.
