Page Numbering

I have a 40 page document that I want the pages numbers on.
I select the footer and set up I want. It then does 7 pages and after the
7th page it says the next one is page 4 again and starts over. Any help
would be appreciated, I have tried the other ways to insert page numbers and
I am getting the same thing happening.

Page numbering options, such as restarts, apply to individual sections.
Place the insertion point in the header (or footer) of page 4 and then
display the Page Number Format dialog box. Make sure to choose the "Continue
from previous section" option, and then click OK.

To display the Page Number Format dialog box: If you are using Word 97-2003,
click the Format Page Number button on the Header and Footer toolbar. If you
are using Word 2007, click Page Number (on the Header & Footer Tools Design
tab of the ribbon), and then click Format Page Numbers.
